Statement of Significance

The tree is an impressive 30 metres high. It is a landmark tree which can be seen from many parts of the community. As such, it is a way finder for the people of this community. It is also used as a nesting tree by an Australian falcon. The tree was planted by John Wittaker, a significant member of Bayswater's early community. The Pine was planted pre 1917 on the corner of the block; John Whittaker's wife Eleanor died in 1915, and it is likely the tree was planted in her honour.

Location

The front left corner of the block facing Drake Street, & front right corner of the block facing Burnside Street. The block is near the apex of the hill which the road runs up to. Since it is on the corner of Burnside & Drake, the tree is very prominent.
