The only other known specimens are in the Royal Botanic Gardens (7).The Kei Apple is native to southern Africa and its name is derived from the Kei River in the south. The ripe fruits are tasty, and similar to a small apple. This species is widely cultivated for fruit or as a hedge in the Mediterranean and California.
