Statement of Significance
The Peppercorn Tree is believed to be part of an earlier farming settlement on the site. It is next to a mid 20th century farmhouse (now staff housing)
The Peppercorn tree is estimated to be over 100 years old, and a remnant of farming settlement predating the university. The male tree is of outstanding size, and a rare example for there is no other peppercorn trees in the area. Its height, circumference and canopy spread are impressive.
The tree's vigorous growth and form with large and unusual limbs is notable. It has four trunks that extend from its base
This is a healthy tree with prolific new growth shooting from branches and trunk.
The tree is situated in a private garden of a house on the Deakin University grounds.
