Statement of Significance

Historical Value:
A tree commemorating a particular occasion (including plantings by Royalty) or having an association with an important historical event.

An attractive tree with pendulous foliage. The species is unusual in cultivation although plantings occur in Buda and the Royal Botanical Gardens. The only natural occurance in Victoria is at "Wilga Park" near Swan Hill which has 12 large trees. The tree was planted by Joseph Furphy (1843-1912) alias Tom Collins theauthor of "Such Is Life". It is unfortunate that this historic tree has no treceived better care. It has severalpoor pruning cuts, the soil is very compacted and the concrete footpath touches the trunk. The tree is in urgent need of a management program.

The tree is located south of the Senior Citizens Clubrooms.
