Statement of Significance

This is an impressive row of Algerian Oak planted in 1890 by Sidney John Webb.(see tablet at intersection of Webb St). <EM>Q canariensis </EM>is native to the Iberian peninsula and north Africa.<BR>All the trees on the south side of the avenue were cut down in the 1960s by the Road Authority. <BR>One tree was transplanted in 1999 with aid of the National Trust.
