Statement of Significance
Known as 'Guilfoyle's Oak', this tree was planted by the Director of the Botanic Gardens, William Guilfoyle, on 17 August 1873. The age of the tree at the time of planting was 3 years (1908 handbook). Guilfoyle is regarded as the finest landscape designer in Victoria and was responsible for a number of regional botanic gardens and private gardens, especially in the Western District. <BR>The tree has undergone surgery but still has low vigour. <BR>It is located at the entrance to the Director's Residence.
