Statement of Significance
Located on the Hopetoun lawn and possibly the largest example of the species in the world. An enormous tree, although it dropped one of its branches in 1981. Presumably planted by Baron von Mueller, Director of Gardens, 1857 - 73. He mentions planting Monterey Cypresses in this region of the Gardens in Annual Reports in 1858 and 1864.<BR>The tree canopy has been extensively cabled
