Statement of Significance
Located on the edge of the Shrine of Remembrance grounds, the remarkable size and the shape of the canopy of this Moreton Bay Fig (Ficus macrophylla) makes it a superb specimen. While it has a commemorative plaque remembering the contribution of the RAAF Transport Group in World War II, the tree predates this war and probably World War 1. The spread of the canopy, its uniform density and its hemispherical shape makes it an outstanding example for metropolitan Melbourne and the State. There are few signs of damage and every indication that it enjoys good health.
