Statement of Significance

There is no other Erythrina x sykesii on the Register. This tree is large for its type and in excellent condition. It is estimated to be 120 years old and is thriving in this isolated site.<BR>Erythrina x sykesii is a medium sized deciduous tree with knobbly grey-green bark, numerous small triangular rose-like thorns and red flowers.<BR>According to local history books, the original township and hotel in Mallacoota was founded in the 1880s. It is believed that this tree was planted by the original owners of the hotel at around the same time.<BR>Accessiblity to the site is by boat.
