Statement of Significance
This tree was planted by the people of Lilydale on 13 June 1900 to commemorate the defence of Mafeking, South Africaby Colonel Baden Powell and his garrison during a siege by the Boers lasting 209 days. a plague "Relief to Mafeking" is erected to that effect.
