Statement of Significance

As an avenue of 119 trees planted either side of the tram tracks in Mt Alexander Road these palms are a significant feature in the landscape, forming an impressive entrance to Melbourne on a major arterial road. The palms are in excellent condition and recently a small number have been planted to replace missing palms.Other gaps need to be filled and the Lagunariapatersonii in the avenue near Brewster Street intersection should be removed. Coprosma repens and other weeds growing in the palms should be removed. The section between Marco Polo and Leake Streets used for carparking is unattractive and may cause a decline in the health of the palms
