Statement of Significance

This tree is notable for its uniform trunk which tapers only slightly to the first branch at 14m. It is a fine forest specimen and has a larger girth and height than the specimen at Monkey Top Track, although the latter is a more impressive tree overall. Eucalyptus denticulata is native to this area of East Gippsland and the type specimen was collected relatively recently on March 3, 1989, at an altitude of 1,140 metres above sea level, at Errinundra National Park. Previously this species was considered an informal variant of E. nitens known as the Shining Gum. The tree is located on the roadside in a small clearing 1m on the west side of Hensleigh Creek Road and about 0.5m north of Coast Range Road.
