Horticultural Value:<BR>A tree of horticultural or genetic value and could be an important source of propagating stock, including specimens that are particularly resistant to disease or exposure.<BR><BR>Rar or Localised:<BR>A tree of a species or variety that is rare or of very localised distribution.<BR><BR>Outstanding example of species:<BR>A tree that is an outstanding example of its species.<BR><BR>Carl Axel Nobelius was born in Finland in 1851 and came to Australia at the age of 17. He was employed by Taylor and Sangster, nurserymen, in Toorak Road. He established a fruit tree nursery at Emerald around 1880. By 1903 he had stock of one million trees, a sizeable amount of these being exported each year. In 1914 stock amounted to two million trees and covered 450 acres. He died in 1921.
