Statement of Significance

This tree is one of the few specimens of Port Jackson fig to be found. Other examples occur at St Vincent's Gardens on the eastern side however the canopies have been pruned for power lines. This specimen contains some branch grafts and is in good condition. The tree has a major western fork however the bark is not included in the branch union. The area beneath this tree has a gardeners' shed located under the canopy and for some time the area appears to have been neglected. Recent works beneath the tree have improved this situation. The garden was laid out in 1854 by Charles Swyer, who also designed "Genara" at Bulla. The tree makes a strong contribution to this section of the landscape and is an outstanding example of the species.
