Statement of Significance
This tree is of state significance as a tree of outstanding size and making a contribution to the landscape; "Bilston's Tree" reputed to be the largest known River Red Gum.
Notes
"Bilston's Tree" reputed to be the largest known River Red Gum. If solid, the tree contains enough wood for 300 railway sleepers.In 1961 the Forests Commission purchased a 1 acre reserve containing this tree from Mr T Bilston following recommendations from local citizens to protect it from being felled. Since this time the Deparment of CF&L have undertaken works to conserve and protect this tree.
