Statement of Significance
This tree is an impressive example of this species with a dense crown and wide-spreading canopy and is said to be around 100 years old. It is a dominant feature of the landscape. <BR><EM>Quercus suber</EM> is slow-growing and long-lived,up to 250 years of age. Cork oak bark has been harvested for thousands of years. This speciesis easily distinguishable from the English oak (<EM>Quercus robur</EM>), by its knobbly grey bark and long evergreen leaves.
