Statement of Significance

This tree is a large example of the species exhibiting a wide-spreading canopy. A dominant feature of the garden,which was established in 1913 by the current (1998) owners family. The tree was plantedto commemorate his grandfather's safe return from Gallipoli. <BR><EM>Arbutus unedo</EM>is native to theMediterranean and western Europe. Due to its presence in South West Ireland, it is also known as Irish strawberry tree
