Statement of Significance
This is an outstanding specimen of Calocedrus decurrens (Incense Cedar). The tree has formed an impressive conical shaped canopy and due to its position and size is a dominant feature. The tree has an exceptionally large trunk and sweeping branches close to the ground. This species is rare in cultivation and the only other known examples occur at Alpine Park, Wandiligong, Queen Victoria Park, Beechworth, 2 trees at Creswick and 3 trees in the Royal Botanic Gardens. All of these trees are small and less impressive than this specimen.
Location
The tree is in fair condition although a few branches have been removed on the east side for powerline clearance and excess soil has been dumped near the trunk. The tree requires deadwooding, the Silky Oak near the canopy needs to be removed and land graded.
