Statement of Significance
This English Oak isa prominent and attractive tree in the landscape. <EM>Quercus robur</EM> is one of the most common park trees in south-eastern Australia and is noted for its vigorous, luxuriant growth. It is native to most of Europe, and to Anatolia to the Caucasus, and also to parts of North Africa<BR>Mr Retallack purchased 3 acres in 1881 and built the large house named Carnbrae Two after a castle in Cornwall. It was bought by Misses Mitchell in 1908 who then sold it to Messrs Manifold Cuthbert & Bailey for the establishment of Queens College. The site is now the Ballarat campus of the Australian Catholic University.
