Statement of Significance

Contribution to the landscape
Old or venerable
Historical value

A striking avenue of this native of North America and possibly the oldest surviving planting of the species in Victoria. The trees were planted in circa 1870 by Arthur Charles Simon, pioneer orchardist of the district, from seed sent to him by his brother in the USA. The avenue resulting from the interlacing of the trees through the centre of the property has become a focal point in the landscape.
2011: Showing signs of die-back at the top of some trees possibly caused by the prolonged drought. Still an impressive avenue.
