What is significant?
One of ten Big Trees, this Red Ironbark is located between Trunk Track, Murphy Road and Little Gunyah Track in Wellford State Forest.

How is it significant?
This Red Ironbark is significant for scientific and social reasons at the Regional level.

Why is it significant?
This Red Ironbark tree is scientifically significant for its large size. It is one of the ten largest trees in the forest. It is also significant for its contribution to the native forest landscape (this forest is impacted by logging). The tree is one of the few hollow bearing trees left in the forest which provide important habitat for native fauna. The tree is often visited by conservationists, children and members of the Bendigo Family Nature Club to learn about Box-ironbark Forest ecology.
