Statement of Significance
This Morton Bay Fig is significant for social and scientific reasons at Regional level. This tree is outstanding for its size at a height of 25m and canopy spread of 23-25m. This large and old Moreton Bay Fig is located in a prominent position near the sports field and makes a significant contribution to the landscape. The area was first subdivided in 1853 and in 1866 William Bushby Jones bought this section. In 1877 he built 'Brocklesby' which in 1907 became Lauriston Girls School. Several limbs of the tree have areas of decay.
