Statement of Significance

The Picnic Tree was so names as it was the landmark within the "Glenbarr" paddock which hosted many community events (including football). The tree is an iconic relic of the early development of the Strathalbyn District and a good example of how trees were associated with recreational activities in the 2nd half of the 19th C and the first half of the 20th century.
