Statement of Significance

An outstanding 100 year old Golden hinoki, at St Vigeans, the remarkable hills garden created and planted from 1882 by Sir Edward Stirling and his head gardener Douglas Searle. Hinoki cypress is sacred to those of the Shinto faith; it is valued for its fragrance and workability.
