Statement of Significance
Tree stands on area of river flats used for Sunday school picnics. It is known as The Picnic Tree because many Sunday School picnics of all denominations from late 19th century to approx. 1930 used to hold their picnics under its shady arch. The tree is significant both historically and as a curio. The arch is the result of the tree having fallen over onto a main branch, which has layered.
