Statement of Significance
This majestic stand of poplars was probably planted along the First Creek by George Birrell who had a 10 acre vineyard in the area from 1853 until 1882 when the area was subdivided. They appear in one of 8 photographs of a panorama taken in 1880 from the Norwood Town Hall tower.
