Statement of Significance
Richard & Elizabeth Harrison arrived in SA 25/12/1839 on Lady Maley. Until they obtained a house in Currie Street Adelaide they camped beside the tree, their two children Mary Katherine (13) & George John slept in the hollow of the tree. The River red gum known as Monarch of the Glen is a well-known landmark at the caravan park off Brown Hill Creek Road. Its gnarled trunk has undoubtedly provided shelter for Aboriginal and early visitors.
