Statement of Significance

This specimen is the subject of NTSA Early Building Committee file no. 705.Planted in July 1836 by the first colonists to settle SA.They landed on 27/7/1836 and allegedly planted the tree the following day.Several planted, only one survived.The Old Mulberry Tree is believed to be the first tree planted at the first, even though short-lived, official settlement in South Australia - Reeves Point, Kangaroo Island.
