Statement of Significance
The largest known specimen of this species in cultivation. Grown from seed collected by Edwin Ashby from the area known as Flinders Chase, Kangaroo Island, in 1906 or (thereabouts). Edwin Ashby was one of the prime movers in canvassing the government to create the fauna and flora reserve, Flinders Chase. In October 1965 Wittunga was donated to the State as a botanic garden by the family of Edwin Ashby. Aug 2010- Well cared for in grounds of house at Wittunga Botanic Garden. Tree in excellent condition, two large limbs from 0.75cm above ground level and thick leaf litter under canopy.
