Statement of Significance

An avenue of 145 Sugar gums planted in October 1893 at the entrance to the Belair National (now Recreation) Park to honour the Park's founding chairman, Sir Edwin Smith. An historic and very fine example of planting of native vegetation not indigenous to the area.
