Statement of Significance
This tree was planted in 1863,8 years after the Garden was founded.In 1963 Mr Lothian,new director,described this tree (ADV) As Pepper Trees go,it is in its prime,& should be good for another 200yrs This excellent specimen is of historic significance because it was planted by the first Director and founder of the Botanic Garden in Adelaide, Mr George William Francis. Its remarkable size gets particular mention in both the jubilee (1907) and centenary (1905) Botanic Garden publications.
