Statement of Significance
These trees are significant by virtue of their age and relative rarity in the ACT.
History
The two trees were planted in the upper western garden of Lanyon homestead about 1870byJane Cunningham, wife of Andrew Cunningham, owner of Lanyon. The significance of the homestead and gardens lies in the way in which they illustrate the attainment of the pastoral ideal, with its attendant notions of continuity and change.
